Adam Reach and Mateusz Klich both scored stunning goals as Sheffield Wednesday held Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United to a 1-1 draw on Friday night.
Anyone who tuned into the Championship’s Friday night clash between Leeds United and Sheffield Wednesday will have been treated to two of the most eye-catching if contrasting goals anywhere in England’s top five leagues so far this season.
Adam Reach smashed in the opening on the stroke of half time, striking a bouncing ball in off the post from all of 30 yards. But Leeds responded after the interval with a goal of their own, Mateusz Klich curling a stunning strike into the far corner from the edge of the box.
But which goal was better? Ian Holloway is certainly a fan of both strikes but, speaking on EFL on Quest (29 September, 9pm), the former QPR boss feels Klich’s effort was a more controlled and calculated attempt.
“That’s what you pay money for, that’s what supporters want to see,” Holloway said.
“(Reach) should never really shoot but wow.
“(Klich’s goal) is slightly more measured. Which one would you prefer, we can talk all night about it. What a finish. I could watch that one all night.”
At the risk of getting on the wrong side of Sheffield Wednesday fans, there was perhaps an element of ‘hit and hope’ about Reach’s long-range pot-shot. The former Middlesbrough man seemed as surprised as anyone to see the ball find its way past Bailey Peacock-Farrell.
Klich’s effort, however, was planned and picture perfect.
