Paul Merson has bluntly predicted that Liverpool will not be beating Manchester City on Sunday.
Anfield plays host as the Reds welcome Pep Guardiola’s side in an effort to keep alive their slim chances of a Premier League title challenge.
Victory for the visitors would put City 16 points clear of Liverpool – who have a game in hand – and considering we’re only in October, well it’s nigh-on impossible to see Jurgen Klopp’s troops bridging that gap.
In essence, the Merseysiders have to win on Sunday, but Merson, speaking to Sportskeeda, cannot see it happening.
He said: “Do I see Liverpool winning? No. They’re still letting in too many goals. Manchester City have got Haaland and will still win a lot of games this season. I don’t see how Liverpool are going to stop them from scoring at least two goals this weekend. Prediction: Liverpool 1-3 Manchester City.”

Despite the fact they’ve been horribly erratic all year long, don’t write off Liverpool.
This is a team who beat Rangers 7-1 in the Champions League a little earlier this week, a reminder of how good they can be.
Obviously City is a massive step-up from Ibrox, but the fact remains that Klopp’s side can turn on the style at any given moment and no doubt Guardiola will be wary of that.
