Nottingham Forest reportedly wanted to sign Kamil Grosicki from Championship rivals Hull City for £2.5m during the summer transfer window.
In another world, Kamil Grosicki could have been wearing Garibaldi red rather than amber and black as Nottingham Forest hosted Hull City on Wednesday night.
The Poland international has been one of the Championship’s most influential attackers for two years now and, despite turning 31 in June, this jet-heeled wideman isn’t slowing down any time soon.
Grosicki already has four league goals to his name this season and he was the pick of the bunch once again as Grant McCann’s Tigers earned their stripes with a shock 2-1 win at the City Ground in midweek.
It was the kind of rampaging performance which has become Grosicki’s trademark and Forest, who apparently wanted to sign the Poland international in the summer, surely would have claimed the three points themselves had the veteran winger been lining up for them rather than the visitors.
The Sun (26 May, page 69) claimed that Forest were hoping to sign Grosicki for £2.5 million. And now Forest manager Sabri Lamouchi has found out first hand what all the fuss is about.
“We let Hull play how they wanted to, and they were waiting to play counter-attack with some good wingers like Grosicki,” Lamouchi told the club’s website. “It was our mistakes in game that helped them.”
It’s successive defeats for Forest now, with the East Midland giants slipping to eighth in the table. And with just 17 goals to their name, less than Luton Town and nine other Championship teams, their inability to bring in a genuine matchwinner like Grosicki could be the difference between success and failure.
