Is David Marshall going to make a shock move to Liverpool after playing in the Championship with Hull City?

David Marshall will be fully aware that a move to Liverpool will see him spending most his time sat on the substitutes’ bench.

But can a goalkeeper who has turned out for Norwich City, Cardiff and Hull really afford to miss out on a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to join the Champions of Europe in the autumn of his career?

According to the Sun (June 2, page 59), none other than Liverpool are interested in luring the 34-year-old Marshall to Merseyside, most likely as an experienced back-up to Alisson Becker and potentially even Simon Mignolet.

Think Rob Green at Chelsea and Lee Grant at Manchester United.

And Hull fans seem to think that Marshall’s departure is all-but guaranteed. The Tigers do appear to be planning for their veteran shot-stopper’s departure after all by picking up Matt Ingrim from Queens Park Rangers as a likely replacement.

The question, however, is whether Marshall is making the right call. He is 34 but that is still young for a goalkeeper and he has a lot left to offer.

The fact that Green and Grant played just 20 minutes of football between them last season is a sign of things to come if Marshall joins Liverpool.
