Scottish Premiership giants Rangers are reportedly trying to lure Allan McGregor back to Ibrox but could Hull City teammate Max Clark be an option, too?

Although Hull City have played down suggestions that Allan McGregor’s return to Rangers is a done deal, and have confirmed that they remain hopeful of keeping hold of the experienced goalkeeper, it would be a big surprise now if the 36-year-old was not at Ibrox by the time next season kicks off.

McGregor is out of contract this summer and the BBC reported last week that he had agreed terms ahead of a second spell at Rangers, where he spent 10 years before joining Turkish club Besiktas back in 2012. But McGregor should not be the only bargain signing Rangers pursue from Hull City this summer.

According to the Hull Daily Mail, the 22-year-old left-back Max Clark is set to leave the KCom Stadium too as things stand.

Clark, who has been at Hull since the age of 12, is allegedly keen to remain with his boyhood club but all the signs are pointing towards a summer exit. He rejected a three-year deal back in September and, with no movement on a new contract, Nottingham Forest and Millwall have already made contact.

And Rangers should consider an inspired double-deal.

After all, left-back is one position director of football Mark Allen is under pressure to reinforce this summer, with Myles Beerman out of contract and the suspended Lee Wallace (above) seemingly unlikely to ever play for the Scottish Premiership giants again.

Clark on a free would offer much-needed competition for Declan John and, due to a loophole in the transfer system, they could nab him for little more than a minimal compensation fee.
