Aston Villa want seldom-seen Leicester City flop Ahmed Musa – but Hull City aren’t willing to accept defeat despite missing out in the summer.
Leicester City missed a real opportunity in their first transfer window as Premier League champions in the summer of 2016.
Islam Slimani, Nampalys Mendy and Bartosz Kapustka have all failed to live up to big price-tags but Ahmed Musa has perhaps been the biggest disappointment of all.
Scoring 13 times in a prolific 2015/16 season for CSKA Moscow, the Nigerian attacker appeared to have more than justified his £16 million fee, per the BBC. In the 16 months after moving to Leicester, however, Musa has made just seven Premier League starts – and has managed a grand total of two goals.
Falling out of favour midway through last season, Musa has only featured once in all competitions in 2017/18. And that came in August’s 4-1 EFL Cup win at Sheffield United.
Musa, then, may be regretting turning down a move to Championship side Hull City in the summer in order to stay and fight, in vain, for his place at Leicester. Though the Hull Daily Mail reports that the 25-year-old may get a second chance to kick-start his career sooner rather than later.
Aston Villa are reported to be interested. And with Steve Bruce’s experienced side sitting sixth and well-placed to fight for promotion to the Premier League, the addition of real pace in attack via Musa could enhance the league’s tenth best attack.
Though with the report adding that Hull are interested again, Musa has a difficult decision to make. Unlike Villa, Hull’s promotion hopes look over already. They are 20th in the table, six points off the bottom.
Reunited and it feels so good
One advantage Hull do have over Villa, however, is their manager – Leonid Slutsky. The affable Russian is the man who brought Musa to CSKA in 2012 from Dutch side VVV Venlo and transformed a raw talent into one of the most admired attacking players in African football.
Could Slutsky be the key to Musa finding his golden touch in England? You could forgive the seldom-seen attacker for wanting to test that theory out.
