Borussia Dortmund centre-back Neven Subotic could leave the Bundesliga for the Premier League with Huddersfield Town making him an offer.
Huddersfield Town have already pulled off one eye-catching defensive signing this month and appear to be lining up another.
A matter of weeks after Dutch international Terrence Kongolo arrived at the John Smith’s Stadium on a loan deal from Monaco, the Sun reports that the Terriers are now eyeing a move for Borussia Dortmund centre-back Neven Subotic.
The long-serving centre-back has spent a decade at the Bundesliga giants but his time at the Signal Iduna Park appears to be coming to an end. He has made just five appearances this season and will slip further down the pecking order after Dortmund pounced for Swiss international Manuel Akanji.
Huddersfield manager David Wagner knows Subotic well from his time in charge of BVB’s reserve side, however – and it is understood that the Serbian international is open to a move to Yorkshire.
The 29-year-old will be out of contract in the summer and is therefore available for a fee of just £3 million.
For that price, surely a West Brom side looking high and low for centre-backs should join Huddersfield in offering Subotic a chance in the Premier League.
The Baggies look likely to lose the influential Jonny Evans this month, with Arsenal and Manchester City circling. And, according to Sky Sports, West Brom are looking at Zamalek’s Egyptian international Ali Gabr as a potential addition.
Subotic, however, has proved himself at the top level for many years and, if he can stay clear of the injuries that have dogged him in recent times, he has the potential to be a stand-out addition for a team in the lower half of the Premier League.
Subotic has won two Bundesliga titles with Dortmund, following Jurgen Klopp from Mainz in 2008.
