Celtic got rid of Ciftci despite him having a year left on his contract and now he is in Turkey with Genclerbirligi.
The only surprise when Nadir Ciftci was released by Celtic in July was that it took so long for the striker to be let go by the Scottish Premiership champions.
The forward cost £1.5 million when Ronny Deila signed him from Dundee United in 2014, but he did not exactly represent money well spent in Glasgow.
In 26 games, Ciftci scored a grand total of four goals. In fact, the Turk was so out of favour after dreadful loan spells at Pogon Szczencin, Plymouth and Motherwell, that Celtic decided to terminate his contract, which still had 12 months left to run.
But how is Ciftci faring since bidding farewell and has he got his career back on track?
Not yet…but he has made a decent start. The Karakocan-born striker returned to his homeland in the summer, signing a contract with Genclerbirligi, and he is already just one goal away from matching his Celtic tally.
Ciftci has scored three goals in the Turkish top flight. But what makes this rather impressive is that just one of his appearances for Genclerbirligi has come from the start.
He has helped his new side to the top of the Turkish second tier as a result. But his form is not good enough yet to suggest that Celtic should have given him a second chance.
