Brendan Rodgers’s Celtic and Hoffenheim have been linked with Newcastle United defender Chancel Mbemba in the summer transfer window.

The Chronicle reported earlier this month that Brendan Rodgers’s Celtic want to sign Chancel Mbemba from Newcastle United in the summer transfer window.

With The Northern Echo reporting this week that Mbemba could be available for £3 million, the Newcastle defender would be smart signing for Celtic indeed.

However, the Glasgow giants now seem to be facing competition from Hoffenheim. According to The Chronicle, the Bundesliga club are interested in securing the services of the DR Congo international, who earns £35,000 per week as salary, according to Spotrac.com.

Advantage Hoffenheim?

Celtic are a massive club and have a strong support, but Hoffenheim may have an advantage.

The German club are guaranteed to play in the Champions League next season after finishing third in the Bundesliga this past campaign.

Celtic will have to go through the qualifying rounds to progress to the group stage of the Champions League, and there is no guarantee that the Hoops will be able to do that.

Moreover, the Bundesliga is a much better and more competitive domestic league than the Scottish Premiership, and that could be tempting to Mbemba.
