Crystal Palace are reportedly interested in Roma’s prolific Serie A striker Edin Dzeko.
Make no mistake, Crystal Palace are in a relegation battle right now. At least until they can sign a prolific goal-scorer capable of putting away those chances created by Wilfried Zaha, Andros Townsend and co.
The dreadful form of Christian Benteke and the ongoing absence of Connor Wickham means Palace have looked rather toothless in attack, failing to score a single home goal so far this season.
No wonder the Eagles want to bring Edin Dzeko back to the Premier League in January. That is according to the Mirror, anyway, who believe Palace are rivalling fellow strugglers Southampton and Cardiff for the Bosnia international.
Dzeko has been a revelation since joining Roma, scoring 68 goals in 109 games since the start of the 2016/17 season.
Though Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson didn’t seem to be a massive fan back in 2010. Speaking to The Sun (9 April, 2010), Hodgson mocked Dzeko’s apparent price-tag ahead of his move to Manchester City, and compared the then-Wolfsburg striker to his Fulham targetman Bobby Zamora.
“I read Dzeko is worth £40 million, in that case maybe we should put up the price for Bobby should we ever want to sell him,” he said.
In fairness to Hodgson, Zamora did score 19 goals that season, helping Fulham reach the Europa League final in the most prolific campaign of his career.
But, with Dzeko mulling over his future, Palace fans will hope he does not get wind of these comments.
