Scott Allan has shone since returning to Hibernian on loan from Scottish Premiership rivals and reigning champions Celtic.
A loan move to Hibernian could be the best thing that ever happened for Scott Allan’s career.
The 25-year-old had become Celtic’s forgotten man after failing out of favour under Brendan Rodgers and failing to impress in temporary spells with MK Dons, Rotherham United and Dundee.
But since returning to Easter Road, the club where he starred before earning that move to Celtic in 2015, Allan has looked a player reborn. The enigmatic Scot continued his resurgence with a fabulous goal in the Edinburgh derby win against Hearts on Friday night, leading some Celtic fans to demand his return at the end of the campaign.
And comments from Hibernian teammate Liam Craig will only enhance the feeling that Allan deserves a second chance to show off his magic in green and white.
“Scotty is one of the most talented players I’ve ever worked with,” Craig, who also played alongside Allan during his sensational breakthrough campaign in 2014/15, told Edinburgh News.
“The Hibs fans were disappointed to lose him (to Celtic) but he’s come back in and shown what a good footballer he is. If you score a goal like the one he got in the derby and produce performances like he has, you’re going to win the fans back.
“There’s nothing better than having players in your team who you can give the ball and know they can go and make something happen, and Scotty is definitely one of those players.”
Allan is not the only Celtic-owned star thriving away from Parkhead right now. Ryan Christie, another twinkle-toed play-maker with an eye for the spectacular, has been earning rave reviews north in Aberdeen.
And with Celtic lacking a natural number ten, both Allan and Christie should be offered an opportunity to stake their claim once these transformative loan spells come to an end.
