Scottish Premiership giants Rangers have reportedly targeted Blackpool defender Curtis Tilt as an alternative to Jake Cooper.
Rangers appear to be going all out to sign Millwall’s Jake Cooper (above) this summer. But with the Championship side unwilling to sell their giant centre-back, the Scottish Premiership giants have identified an alternative – Blackpool’s Curtis Tilt.
It is understood by the Scottish Sun that the 26-year-old features on a list of alternative targets and he would certainly come cheaper than Cooper.
Rangers have made a take-it-or-leave it £3 million bid for Cooper, while Tilt, who has just one year left on his contract, is understood to be valued at around £1 million by his League One employers.
But why are Rangers keen to bring the 6ft 3ins powerhouse to Ibrox? Perhaps these quotes from Blackpool boss Gary Bowyer should explain why Tilt, who has already been the subject of a bid from Ipswich Town, is a man in demand.
“”Not at all, with the level of performance he’s got. With his pace, I think we’ve seen once or twice that he’s unbelievable,” Bowyer said in quotes reported by the BBC during last season, when asked whether Tilt would play in League One for long.
“His potential is enormous – for me, he can go as high as he wants.”
As high as, say, one of the biggest and most historic clubs in British football?
Interestingly, Tilt had never played a game of professional football until he signed for Blackpool last summer, having spent his career in non-league with the likes of Wrexham, Telford and Hednesford Town.
