Michael Keane has struggled at Goodison Park since moving to Everton from Premier League rivals Burnley last summer.
It seems that Leighton Baines has been more impressed with Michael Keane’s recent performances than most of the Everton fans.
The centre-back has struggled to show his best form since a £30 million move from Burnley last summer, with a number of mistakes damaging his reputation among the Goodison Park support.
Everton have conceded 54 Premier League goals this season and Keane, along with the error-prone Ashley Williams, is a major reason why centre-half has been arguably The Toffees’ Achilles heel whether it be Ronald Koeman, David Unsworth or Sam Allardyce on the touchline.
But after a Man of the Match performance in the 0-0 draw with Liverpool, albeit one without Mo Salah or Roberto Firmino, Keane was largely impressive in another stalemate against Swansea City on Saturday.
And Baine believes the former Manchester United defender might have turned a corner.
“Michael’s form is brilliant, he has been fantastic for us in recent weeks,” Baines told evertontv.
“The rest of us in the back four have played together a long time and that has helped settle us at times.
“But Michael’s form has been terrific in the past few weeks and it is good to see.”
The Everton fans, however, need a lot more convincing. Keane, who has lost his place in the England squad ahead of the World Cup, had one or two nervy moments against Swansea and a mistake never seems too far away.
