Premier League runners-up Liverpool reportedly want £20million for Marko Grujic, who has shone on loan at Hertha Berlin in the Bundesliga.
Hertha Berlin’s sporting director Michael Preetz has told Kicker that he plans to hold talks with Liverpool about a permanent deal for Marko Grujic after the Champions League final.
Liverpool will face Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur at the Wanda Metropolitano on June 1 as they look to finish a fine yet frustrating season with a sixth European title. And when all is said and done in Madrid, the future of the club’s many fringe players will come to the fore ahead of what is expected to be a busy summer of outgoings.
Grujic, who was the first signing of Klopp’s Anfield era, has spent the entire 2018/19 season on loan at Hertha and produced some exceptional performances as the club comfortably avoided relegation from the Bundesliga.
And, according to Preetz, Hertha would jump at the chance to keep the Serbia international at the Olympiastadion if possible.
“We have a permanent exchange with Liverpool FC and have had some personal talks with Jürgen Klopp over the past week with Marko,” said Preetz.
“Liverpool will sit down (with us) after the Champions League final to discuss the squad for the next season and we think Marko would do well for another season in Berlin to reach the level that Liverpool play Marko himself would like to stay in.
“I can not promise anything – only that I will try everything that the boy plays next year in Berlin.”
According to the Mail, Liverpool would demand £20 million from any club looking to sign Grujic on a permanent deal; a fee that would see the Reds earn a £15 million profit on a player who has featured only sporadically during his career in English football.
