The teenage striker is reportedly on the radar of almost every progressive club in Europe, with Celtic heading the queue.
Long-standing Celtic target Henry Onyekuru has told L’Avenir that he will be leaving Belgian side Eupen in the summer but has remained non-committal on the identity of his destination.
The 19-year-old Nigerian has endured a difficult couple of weeks since speculation intensified that he would be on his way out at the end of the season. His ‘supporters’ have even taken to whistling him on occasions after he allegedly went AWOL in January to force through an exit.
Celtic appeared the most likely destination with Brendan Rodgers in the market for talented youngsters he could turn into diamonds, although the Scottish Sun claim that RB Leipzig and Sevilla (below) are also very attractive destinations for a young player aiming to fulfil his potential.
And Onyekuru says that, as he enters his final few months with Eupen, it is not certain where he will be playing his football next season, although the long hesitation before answering whether he would sign for Celtic could be construed as a potential hint.
“Yeah, sure, I’m gonna leave this summer,” the 14-goal striker told L’Avenir. “I have an agreement with Eupen. I will be free to leave in the summer.
“I cannot answer now [whether or not I will join Celtic]. I still have to talk to my officials and we will make a decision this summer.”
The Daily Record stated earlier in the month that Onyekuru would turn down interest from elsewhere in order to sign for Celtic in the summer and the rapid progress made by fellow forward Moussa Dembele suggests he could thrive at Parkhead.
