Will Frank Lampard use his Chelsea connections to bring some Premier League prospects to Derby County next season?

Frank Lampard arrives for The Best FIFA Football Awards - Green Carpet Arrivals on October 23, 2017 in London, England.

After spending so much of their playing career side-by-side, Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard look set to venture into management at precisely the same time.

Gerrard has already been unveiled by Rangers and seems intent on using his Liverpool connections to lure a number of Anfield’s most exciting prospects to Ibrox. And Derby County fans are already getting excited by the prospect of Lampard enhancing the Rams’ squad with a few Stamford Bridge starlets.

According to Sky Sports, 39-year-old Lampard is expected to be announced as Derby’s new boss in the very near future. The former England international will replace Gary Rowett, who jumped ship for Stoke City after Derby’s play-off semi-final defeat to Fulham.

Gary Rowett manager of Derby gives instructions during the Sky Bet Championship match between Derby County and Wolverhampton at iPro Stadium on August 12, 2017 in Derby, England.

And the Pride Park faithful have already identified who Lampard’s first transfer target should be – one Tammy Abraham.

The 20-year-old is perhaps the jewel in Chelsea’s gem-encrusted academy right now. Abraham is a natural-born goal-scorer who impressed in fits and bursts at Swansea City last season but showed why he is one of England’s most exciting striking prospects during a previous loan spell at Bristol City.

Abraham netted 26 goals in 48 games for the Robins, so it is pretty clear why Derby fans would not mind seeing him arrive on loan from Chelsea. With Lampard at the helm, this deal is more than just a pipe dream.
