Britt Assombalonga left Nottingham Forest for Championship rivals Middlesbrough a year ago for £14m but could he return to the City Ground?

Britt Assombalonga’s situation at Middlesbrough has got Nottingham Forest fans talking but not everyone is singing from the same hymn sheet.

HITC sources are telling us that the striker’s future on the Riverside is in doubt after a training ground disagreement with Boro boss Tony Pulis.

This comes after Assombalonga struggled to hold down a regular place in the starting XI after Pulis replaced Garry Monk at Christmas, scoring just three of his 15 Championship goals in 2018.

But would Forest fans welcome back a player who left them in less than pleasing circumstances a year ago for £14 million?

Some certainly would. Assombalonga is a prolific striker at Championship level, scoring an impressive 30 goals in 65 games for Forest between 2014 and 2017 after a then-club-record £5.5 million switch from Peterborough United.

On the other hand, however, other supporters have not forgotten Assombalonga’s decision to jump ship last summer, despite Forest’s attempts to keep him at the City Ground. The Nottingham Post claimed that they accepted Boro’s £14 million offer with a great deal of reluctance.

And, should Boro try to sell, they would want to recoup all of that fee. With the likes of Lewis Grabban available for almost £10 million less, according to the Sun, there is certainly better value out there.
