Hearts are struggling in the Scottish Premiership under Craig Levein but could Ross return to Tynecastle after being sacked by League One Sunderland?
If Sunderland fans thought that no one would touch Jack Ross with a barge-pole after he failed to shake the fallen giants back to life, think again.
The Scot was sacked on Tuesday afternoon with the Black Cats already eight points adrift at the top of League One, five months after losing the play-off final to Charlton Athletic thanks to a heart-breaking, stoppage-time goal at Wembley.
Ross spent just over a year on Wearside and, while he lost just ten of his 75 games in charge, the statistics only serve to mask the lack of real progress he made at the Stadium of Light. The football was uninspiring and he never really came close to helping a talented squad of players realise their potential.
But Hearts fans are desperate for a fresh start and they would welcome Ross, the club’s former U20 coach, back to Tynecastle in the blinking of an eye.
Hearts supporters won’t need to be reminded that Craig Levein is under huge pressure with the Jambos winning just one of their first eight league games this season. Could Ross give the Scottish Premiership strugglers the jolt they need?
Then again, if Hearts fans want exciting attacking football after some stodgy displays under Levein, they are maybe barking up the wrong tree here.
