Premier League high-flyers Wolverhampton Wanderers have been linked with Benfica’s Portuguese starlet Gedson Fernandes.

A Bola broke the news in March that Wolves are interested in another rising star of Portuguese football, having brought Ivan Cavaleiro, Ruben Vinagre, Ruben Neves and Helder Costa to the club since they were taken over by Fosun International in 2016.
And Gedson, a 20-year-old midfielder, could be the next highly-rated Iberian starlet on his way to Molineux.
With Benfica apparently willing to sell for £35 million, Gedson might even become Wolves’ record signing, exceeding the fee they paid last week to keep Raul Jimenez at Molineux on a permanent basis.
But the fact that the Sao Tome-born enforcer appears to be out of favour right now should perhaps put a seed of doubt in their mind. Gedson was a regular in the first-team up until Christmas but he has not started a Primeira Liga fixture since a shock 2-0 defeat to Portimonense in January, when he was subbed off at half-time.
In fact, he has tallied just 60 minutes of action on Benfica’s last 13 games, coinciding with Bruno Lage replacing Rui Vitoria in the dugout.
Suddenly, £35 million looks like a rather risky investment.
