West Ham United reportedly offered Bernard a lucrative contract to lure him to the Premier League, but AC Milan allegedly want the Brazilian winger in Serie A.
West Ham United could be fighting a losing battle in their reported attempts to bring Bernard to the London Stadium.
The 14-time Brazil international is one of the most prestigious free agents on the market, having bid farewell to Shakhtar Donetsk after five years in Russia at the end of last season.
O Jogo reported that West Ham have been in contact, offering Bernard a lucrative contract complete with wages of £68,000 a week; not to mention a substantial signing-on bonus of £6.8 million.
Globo Esporte had claimed that the skilful winger would love to live in the English capital, but Milan is not a bad place to put down your roots either.
According to Premium Sport, AC Milan’s newly appointed sporting director Leonardo is set to meet the agents of Bernard in Italy on Monday to discuss a potential move to the San Siro.
The report points out that Milan will struggle to splash their cash this summer due to fears of breaking Financial Fair Play rules again. The Rossineri were initially banned from taking part in European football next season for FFP breaches before being granted an eventual reprieve.
So Bernard, a 25-year-old free agent, appeals for obvious reasons. Fortunately for West Ham, however, they do have two new gifted attackers in their squad already in Andriy Yarmolenko and Felipe Anderson.
