Tottenham Hotspur reportedly want to sign Hakim Ziyech from Eredivisie giants Ajax this summer.

Five years ago, Tottenham Hotspur signed a promising play-maker from Ajax by the name of Christian Eriksen.

These days, that £11.5 million deal looks like one of the best pieces of business conducted by any Premier League club in the last decade. Eriksen has developed into a truly world class player in North London and, if Spurs were to sell tomorrow, you could bet they would get somewhere in the region of £100 million for the Danish superstar.

And, with the summer transfer window on the horizon, it seems that Tottenham are keen to replicate that Eriksen deal.

Calciomercato is reporting that Spurs have joined Liverpool and West Ham in the race to sign Hakim Ziyech who, like Eriksen, has blossomed into one of Europe’s most highly-rated creative midfielders at the renowned Amsterdam ArenA finishing school.

Ziyech arrived following a stellar spell with FC Twente in 2016 and has taken his game to another level in the Dutch capital. Ziyech scored seven and assisted 11 last season; this time around he has nine and 15.

And although Ajax may not have won the Eredivisie title in the Moroccan’s two years at the club, he will always be fondly remembered for his inspirational performances in their run to the Europa League final last year.

Time will tell whether Ziyech could have the same impact, or improve as rapidly as Eriksen has at Spurs. But, in terms of natural talent, there are definitely similarities.
