Jack Ross was reportedly keen on bringing goalkeeper Cammy Bell to League One side Sunderland.

Jack Ross is certainly making full use of his Scottish football background as he aims to spark a Sunderland resurgence.

According to the Chronicle, the former St Mirren manager has his eye on a number of highly-rated talents from north of the border, including Dylan McGeouch, John McGinn, Jordan Jones and Jason Naismith.

And the report adds that he was keen on bringing in experienced goalkeeper Cammy Bell, too.

Between the sticks was arguably where Sunderland’s biggest problem lay last season with Jordan Steele, Robbin Ruiter and Lee Camp making countless mistakes between them. So a deal for 31-year-old Bell, a former Rangers and Dundee United number one who was a free agent after leaving Hibernian at the end of the season, could have been a masterstroke.

But it seems that Ross has left it too late. Because, as reported by the Scottish Sun, Bell has now signed with Partick Thistle, who will be competing in the second tier next season after suffering relegation from the top flight in May.

Ross, then, will be forced to look elsewhere for a new number one. Steele and Ruiter cannot be trusted with the errors of last season still fresh in the mind, while Max Stryjek may be highly rated but he is completely unproven at senior level.
