Leonardo Ulloa is looking likely to leave Leicester City and Aston Villa now look a more likely destination than Championship rivals Sheffield United.

Chris Wilder, the Sheffield United manager, looks on during the pre season friendly match between Sheffield United and Stoke City at Bramall Lane on July 25, 2017 in Sheffield, England.

With just half of the January transfer window gone, Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder can afford to put his feet up and toast his good work.

Not only has Wilder finally secured deals for long-standing targets Ricky Holmes and Ryan Leonard, the duo arriving from Charlton Athletic and Southend United after months of speculation, the Blades have also found a replacement for Paul Coutts in Lee Evans.

Meanwhile, Manchester United loanee James Wilson will provide some support up front.

As a result, Wilder has indicated that Sheffield United’s work in the transfer window is done, as reported by the Yorkshire Post, which could be good news for Aston Villa.

The Mail (live transfer blog, 3.15pm) reported in December that both Villa and Sheffield United enquired about the availability of Leicester City’s Leonardo Ulloa. The Foxes, however, were a little nervy about selling the striker at the time with Islam Slimani also heavily linked with a move away.

But with Fousseni Diabate arriving from Gazelec Ajaccio last week, Ulloa could finally be free to escape his King Power purgatory this month, and Sheffield United’s deal for Wilson might leave Villa free to get their man.

The Birmingham Mail states that Villa manager Steve Bruce tried and failed to sign Ulloa in each of the last two transfer windows.

It is looking increasingly like a case of third time lucky.
