Uche Ikpeazu will move to Scottish Premiership Hearts after a fine spell at League Two Cambridge United but where were Rangers?
Hearts winger David Amoo believes his former Cambridge United teammate Uche Ikpeazu will be a big hit at Tynecastle.
The 23-year-old striker will sign a two-year deal with the Edinburgh club when his contract at League Two Cambridge comes to an end this summer, and Amoo has warned Hearts’ Scottish Premiership rivals that they are in for a challenge keeping Ikpeazu off the score sheet.
“There isn’t really anyone like him in Scottish football,” former Liverpool youngster Amoo told the Daily Record of Ikpeazu, the 6ft 4ins striker who netted 14 goals for Cambridge this season.
“He’s different from anyone I played against there. His strength and power sets him apart. He’s a handful, he scores a lot of goals and gets into good positions.”
All this begs the question why Rangers did not make a move for Ikpeazu, who has the potential to be a brilliant signing for absolutely nothing.
A new centre-forward might be required at Ibrox after all, with Alfredo Morelos hardly hiding his desire to move to the Premier League in the near future and Jason Cummings, who has scored just once in ten Scottish Premiership games, only on loan from Nottingham Forest with a £1 million purchase clause looking a little steep.
Ikpeazu, however, could have offered a physical presence that Rangers could benefit from in attack. The prospect of Daniel Candeias providing pinpoint crosses or Josh Windass feeding off his hold-up play would have offered a different dimension to Rangers’ attack.
In truth, however, we will only really know for certain whether Rangers have made a mistake this time next year.
