Scottish Premiership giants Rangers reportedly want to bring Lassana Coulibaly to Ibrox from Ligue 1 club Angers.
There is no shortage of central midfielders in Steven Gerrard’s Rangers squad; so much so that the new Ibrox manager has already told Jason Holt and Andy Halliday that they are free to leave, according to the Daily Record.
But despite boasting the talents of Graham Dorrans, Greg Doherty, Ryan Jack, Stuart Arfield and co, Rangers are missing a midfielder with the power and the pace to drive forward from deep and turn defence into attack in an instant; someone like Celtic’s £4 million man Olivier Ntcham.
It is understood that Rangers are keen to sign Lassana Coulibaly on loan from Ligue 1 outfit Angers. The 22-year-old is already an established international for Mali and, despite making just eight starts in France’s top flight across 2017/18, he could be the sort of player Rangers are missing.
Coulibaly is an attack-minded midfielder renowned for his dribbling ability and tendency to commit opposition midfielders and power his team on from the base of midfield. He would give Rangers the option to go from zero to 100 at neck-breaking speed; a stark contrast to the sluggish, often laborious buildup play of recent times.
Coulibaly would have a lot to do to show he is on the same level as Celtic ace Ntcham, but his arrival would at least give Rangers a player of comparable ability.
