Scottish Premiership champions Celtic reportedly tried to sign Newcastle United’s Premier League goalkeeper Woodman and have scouted him since.

Celtic might have a chance to sign Freddie Woodman after all.
The Daily Record reported back in January that Brendan Rodgers was hoping to bring the promising Newcastle United goalkeeper to Parkhead on loan, only to be left disappointed as Woodman had already agreed to join Aberdeen.
But, 12 months on, the England U20 World Cup winner could be on the move once again.
According to The Chronicle in September, Celtic had sent scouts to watch Woodman in action for Newcastle’s U23 side.
And with his route to the first-team blocked by Martin Dubravka and Karl Darlow, The Chronicle now adds that the shot-stopper is desperate to leave on loan with a return to Scotland on the cards. And it is understood that Rafa Benitez could be willing to give his temporary departure the green light.

So will Celtic be at the front of the queue? Possibly, with regular number one Craig Gordon now set for a spell on the sidelines with a knee injury.
Scott Bain could get a chance to impress in the 35-year-old’s absence but, should the former Dundee goalkeeper fail to adequately fill the void, then that will surely push Celtic towards making a fresh approach for the hugely talented Woodman.
