Eredivisie side FC Utrecht are keen to keep Matuesz Klich beyond the end of this season, giving Leeds United leverage in their Giovanni Troupee chase.
With Luke Ayling (above) out for the rest of the season and Lewie Coyle on loan at Fleetwood Town, Leeds United’s options at right-back look a little stretched until the summer.
The 19-year-old right-back, a swashbuckling and attack-minded player, is also on the radar of a number of Serie A sides with Bologna, Sampdoria and Hellas Verona all interested. Leeds, then, have a challenge if they want to lure Troupee to the English second tier.
But have the Championship giants already greased the wheels for a potential deal? After all, it is just a matter of days since Leeds allowed out-of-favour midfielder Mateusz Klich to return to the Eredivisie via a six-month loan spell at Utrecht.
Although the former FC Twente play-maker may be plying his trade in Holland’s fourth largest city beyond this season, too, if Utrecht get their way.
According to De Telegraph, Klich is part of Utrecht’s long term plans with the club seeing the Polish international as a potential replacement for the influential Yassin Ayoub, who will join Feyenoord in the summer, and Rico Strieder, who’s contract is due to expire.
A permanent deal, then, is definitely on the cards. And Leeds could use this to their advantage as they aim to tempt Utrecht to send Troupee to West Yorkshire for the rest of the season.
