Kieffer Moore will get his chance in the Championship with Barnsley, but perhaps Leeds United should have taken a chance on the Rotherham United loanee.
Kieffer Moore’s superb form at Rotherham United this season has earned him the chance to impress higher up the footballing pyramid.
The 6ft 5ins targetman has plundered 13 goals for the Millers in League One on loan from Ipswich Town. And The Daily Mail states that he has been rewarded with a move to Barnsley; the Tykes agreeing a £750,000 deal with Ipswich and a medical due to take place on Monday.
But should another Yorkshire side have made a move?
Leeds United have been looking at one League One striker in recent weeks, with the Peterborough Telegraph stating that they have seen a £2 million bid for Posh talisman Jack Marriott rejected.
Marriott, the former Luton Town hit man who models his game on Sergio Aguero, has hit 21 goals in a sensational debut season for Peterborough. As such, director of football Barry Fry has insisted that they rate him much higher – around the £10 million mark.
In comparison, the £750,000 Barnsley will pay for Moore looks a snip. Marriott has scored four more goals than Moore in the third tier this season but the latter looks far better value for money.
And, stylistically anyway, he looks like the sort of Chris Wood-esque striker Leeds have been missing ever since the 2016/17 Championship top-scorer made that move to Burnley over the summer.
Like Wood, Moore is a physical presence in attack who roughs up defenders and gets the best out of the attacking midfielders behind him. He looks a far better fit for Leeds than the often invisible Pierre-Michel Lasogga.
Time will tell, however, whether Leeds should have made a move for a player who could prove an excellent signing for their local rivals.
