Scottish Premiership champions Celtic reportedly tried and failed to sign Henry Onyekuru before he moved to Everton.

Henry Onyekuru could be sold by Everton before he has even made an appearance for the Merseyside club.
That is according to TEAMtalk anyway, who believe that director of football Marcel Brands could cash in on the Nigerian forward.
Everton looked to have pulled off a real coup when they snapped up Onyekuru ahead of a whole host of clubs including Celtic in the summer of 2017, paying £7 million to Belgian side KAS Eupen. But could Everton’s stance open a door that appeared to have closed a long time ago for Brendan Rodgers’ Bhoys?
Celtic were the first major club to be linked with Onyekuru during his goal-laden spell with Eupen. The Scottish Sun stated in January 2017 that the Hoops had seen a £1 million bid rejected.
Speaking to the Daily Record, the 21-year-old admitted he was flattered by interest from the Parkhead giants, saying: “I’m really happy that a club like Celtic were interested in me.”

Now, could another opportunity present itself? There is certainly a place in Celtic’s squad for a striker thanks to Moussa Dembele’s deadline-day move to Lyon in August, but they do have £20 million in the bank to invest in a replacement.
So Brendan Rodgers should perhaps take this unexpected opportunity to reignite his interest in Onyekuru who, like Dembele, would arrive in Scotland blessed with raw talent and the need for a manager to nurture his potential.
