Scottish Premiership champions Celtic have taken Moses Odubajo on trial after he left Championship club Hull City for free.

Mikael Lustig has spent six years at Celtic and has won the Scottish Premiership title in every single one of those. He remains a key part of Brendan Rodgers’ squad at the age of 31, starting 25 league games across another hugely successful 2017/18 campaign.
But, in truth, now is the time to look forward. And Celtic’s decision to take Moses Odubajo on their pre-season tour of Austria is exactly that.

Considering that he has not made a single first-team appearance since the 2016 play-off final due to a horrific knee injury, it makes sense that Celtic would take their time in making a decision.
But, should Odubajo prove his fitness and form to Rodgers in central Europe, a deal is likely to be on the table for the 24-year-old. And this could be a sign of Celtic planning for life after Lustig.

The two could hardly be more different, after all. At 31, Lustig is heading towards the autumn of his career and he simply is not the same all-action player who has dominated the right flank in recent years.

Age and injuries seem to have taken their toll and he offers far less going forward than Kieran Tierney does on the opposite flank. Odubajo, however, is a player with lightning speed who will get up and down the wing all game long.
Starting out as a winger at Leyton Orient, it is little surprise that Odubajo should provide far more threat going forward than Lustig. And, seven years younger, he has time on his side.
Could the potential arrival of Odubajo be the beginning of the end for one of Celtic’s longest serving players?
