Trezeguet has become Aston Villa’s latest summer signing, so Brentford’s Said Benrahma now looks unlikely to join the Premier League newcomers.

Aston Villa appear to have aced the transfer window.

In a day when Championship strikers are going for £20 million and half-decent centre-halves are being valued at £50 million-plus, Villa have somehow managed to snap up an established international attacker without breaking the bank.

After weeks of speculation, Kasimpasa’s Egypt star Mahmoud ‘Trezeguet’ Hassan has been snapped up for as little as £8.75 million, as reported by the BBC.

And when you consider how much Aston Villa were being quoted for Said Benrahma, who appeared to be their first-choice winger before turning their attentions to Trezeguet, this bargain deal looks even more impressive.

According to TEAMtalk, Brentford won’t sell Griffin Park’s answer to Lionel Messi for a penny less than £30 million. Sky claims that Villa have offered £14 million but were not willing to raise their bid any further for a former Nice forward.

Yes, Dean Smith’s side have spent around £100 million on new players this summer but that doesn’t mean their vision has been clouded by Premier League riches. Villa have spent over £20 million on just two of their signings, Tyrone Mings and Wesley Moraes, with the Midland giants eyeing value as well as quality.

Benrahma might be one of the most exciting footballers outside of the Premier League but he’s played just one season in the second tier.

That makes him a £30 million risk Aston Villa simply didn’t need to take when players like Trezeguet are available for far less. Approximately £19 million less, to be precise.
