Could Sean Clare commit his future to Sheffield Wednesday after all?

The 21-year-old midfielder has been earning rave reviews in his first ever season in the Owls’ first-team, becoming a key player since the appointment of Jos Luhukay and establishing himself as one of the most promising young talents in the Championship.

Clare is out of contract this summer and TEAMtalk state that a number of clubs are lining up to sign him on a free, including Tottenham Hotspur, Everton, Southampton, Leicester City and Norwich City.

Back in February, it was reported that the Nike Academy graduate had snubbed Wednesday’s offers of a new deal and, in the two months since, Clare has still not given any indication about where his future lies.

So it is interesting to note that he has ‘liked’ a Tweet on his official Twitter page from a keen Sheffield Wednesday fan imploring him to put pen to paper after his fellow youngsters Jack Lee and Warren Clarke extended their contracts on Wednesday.

A move to the likes of Tottenham, where Clare would play under Mauricio Pochettino and hope to follow in the footsteps of other homegrown talents turned superstars Dele Alli, Harry Kane and Danny Rose, would be understandably tempting.

So it would be a major coup if Wednesday can come to an agreement now with arguably their hottest prospect.
