Nottingham Forest were reportedly hoping to sign Max Clark, the left-back from Championship rivals Hull City.

Nottingham Forest appeared to have found the answer to their left-back problems in Max Clark.

The Hull Daily Mail reports that Nottingham Forest are interested in signing the Hull City defender, who is out of contract this summer after failing to agree a new deal at his boyhood club. It is understood that the 22-year-old would cost just £1 million in compensation too.

And, considering that Clark has proven himself in the Championship after starting 25 league games for Hull in 2017/18, he looked like the sort of signing that would finally plug a major gap in Aitor Karanka’s squad.

Now, however, their hopes are hanging by a thread.

The Hull Daily Mail (live blog, June 22, 10:18am) is reporting that Clark has turned down a new contract at Hull and is set to complete a surprising move to Holland with Eredivisie outfit Vitesse Arnhem. He will be reunited with former Tigers manager Leonid Slutsky despite being given the chance to continue his career in England after Forest declared their interest.

And though Clark is not the most high-profile player linked this summer, particularly since Jorge Mendes started pulling the strings, he was a potential signing of brilliant value and a player who could reinforce arguably the weakest area of Forest’s team.

Now, they will have to start looking elsewhere, because it’s high time Ben Osborn stopped filling in at left-back.
