Jasper Cillessen reportedly wants to leave La Liga champions Barcelona – could the Premier League and Liverpool be his destination?

Jasper Cillessen must have known what he was getting into when he joined Barcelona from Ajax in the summer of 2016. With Marc-Andre Ter Stegen already established as the club’s number one, the Dutch international was always likely to spend most of his time on the bench.
And that is exactly how it has transpired. Two months into his third season as a Barca player, Cillessen has tallied just two La Liga appearances. He hasn’t played a single game in 2018/19 with Ter Stegen on Champions League duty too.
As a result, Marca claims that the 29-year-old has grown tired with life in reserve. Cillessen is desperate to receive an offer in the January transfer window so he can bring an end to life on the Camp Nou bench.
Mundo Deportivo claimed that Liverpool are big fans of the 29-year-old and were keen to sign him in the summer, before they made Brazil international Alisson Becker the most expensive goalkeeper in world football that is.

Now, with Simon Mignolet making clear his displeasure at being second choice, perhaps Liverpool should return to Cillessen again in January if their Belgian international is offered the chance to kick-start his career elsewhere.
But with Alisson already a key player at Anfield, Cillessen would risk being in the same position as he was at Barcelona.
