Nottingham Forest are reportedly hoping to sign right-back Angel Rangel from Championship rivals Queens Park Rangers in the January transfer window.
Nottingham Forest missed out on signing Angel Rangel in the summer but links with the veteran Spaniard aren’t going away.
According to The Mirror (November 17, page 63), Forest were planning another offer to sign the 36-year-old right-back in the January transfer window with his short term contract at Queens Park Rangers set to come to an end in the New Year.
But it seems that Forest’s hopes are hanging by a thread. QPR have the option to extend Rangel’s contract until the end of the season and, as the defender himself tells Football London, he is likely to stay at Loftus Road despite admitting that he’s aware of interest from elsewhere.
“Things change quickly when you’re playing and I’ve been informed that they want me to stay already so we’re just in talks at the moment so it should be sorted soon,” said the former Swansea City captain.
“I’ve had interest from other clubs but I have to be thankful and grateful for the team that they gave that opportunity so I don’t think it would be the right move to move to another club and leave QPR behind.”
It is no surprise that QPR want to keep Rangel, given that he has been one of their best players this season. He even scored his first career brace in the 2-2 draw away at Stoke City a few weeks ago.
Nottingham Forest, then, will have to look elsewhere. But the impressive recent performances of Tendayi Darikwa suggests that a new right-back isn’t necessarily a must in the January transfer window.
