Rangers are looking to make a few more signings but will Pedro Caixinha raid rivals Hearts and Aberdeen for their prized assets?
Rangers’ failure to land Hearts winger Jamie Walker continues to baffle a number of supporters. After all, the 22-year-old would clearly be a welcome addition to Rangers’ squad, having scored a career-best 15 goals in all competitions last season.
Furthermore, as reported by the Scottish Sun, Hearts are only demanding £1 million for his signature. So far, the Ibrox giants have made three bids, each of them failing to meet Hearts’ asking price.
Walker shone in 2016/17
Therefore, it was assumed that Rangers had perhaps dropped their interest in not only Walker but Aberdeen midfielder Kenny McLean too.
One of the standout players of the 2016/17 Scottish Premiership season, the Daily Record claimed Rangers were keen to land McLean as he has just 12 months remaining on his contract – though Aberdeen made clear that they would not be willing to sell after skipper Ryan Jack made the contentious move to Ibrox.
Double deal
“I think you know how many more players I want. We have our targets but the transfer window doesn’t close for a few more weeks,” Caixinha told the Daily Record, who say he is referring to Walker and McLean.
“I won’t mention names but you (the media) identified two players and we need two more players. We’ll try to have them with us. If not the two, then at least one.”
McLean was arguably the league’s best midfielder outside of Celtic in 2016/17
Rangers have already brought in nine new faces this summer in a complete overhaul of their squad. However, Walker would still be a fine replacement for Barrie McKay, who fell out of favour and was flogged to Nottingham Forest on the cheap.
And McLean would offer a balance of tenacity and technique in central midfield, potentially forming a fearsome partnership with former team-mate Jack, as well as new signings Carlos Pena and Graham Dorrans.
