Danny Batth has not played for Championship leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers since their 4-1 defeat to Aston Villa almost a month ago.
You could argue that Danny Batth was snubbed not once but twice by Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Nuno Espirito Santo during Tuesday night’s shock 2-2 home draw with Hull City.
The long-serving club captain was left out of the starting line-up for Roderick Miranda, the £2.5 million centre-back who had not previously appeared for two months.
And when Miranda was hauled off at half-time after giving away a ridiculous penalty that was converted by Hull’s David Meyler, Nuno opted to change his system and bring on striker Benik Afobe. Batth, meanwhile, was left on the bench, which does not bode well for his chances of still being at Molineux next season.
A local lad who has been at the club for 18 years, Batth has always dreamed of leading Wolves into the Premier League. But while he looks set to tick that off his bucket list, it seems somewhat unlikely that the 27-year-old will be part of Nuno’s plans in the near future.
With just 12 Championship starts to his name in 2017/18, Batth has featured even less frequently than the out-of-favour Miranda. And it is surely no coincidence that he has not been seen since the 4-1 thrashing at Aston Villa; a dreadful evening during which he was lambasted by supporters for making a series of mistakes.
And being left out of the XI for Miranda could represent another nail in his coffin.
