Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly hoping to sign Celta Vigo’s in-form La Liga striker Maxi Gomez to provide support for Harry Kane.

Three months after West Ham United had a £26.75 million bid turned down, according to Radio Galega, Maxi Gomez could be on his way to their bitter London rivals.
That is according to El Pais, who are reporting that Celta Vigo’s Uruguayan hit man has emerged as a January target for Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham Hotspur.
Gomez, who has been labelled by some as the heir to Luis Suarez, has established himself as a natural-born goal-scorer since he moved to Spain in 2017 and has six goals in nine starts already this season.
Spurs fans will undoubtedly draw comparisons between Gomez and Roberto Soldado, the last big-money striker who arrived at Tottenham in a £26 million deal from Valencia five years ago.
Soldado really struggled to adapt to life in England and will forever remain one of the club’s most disappointing signings of the modern era.

But, in quotes reported by AS in March, Gomez indicated that the Premier League could be perfect for his style of play. After all, the 22-year-old’s power, physicality and old-school style appears to bode well.
“The truth is that the English league is very nice,” Gomez said. “It is stronger, more powerful. It would be good to go there.”
In fact, the Premier League should suit Gomez on paper better than the slower, tactical style of La Liga, and the South American goal-machine has hardly struggled on Spanish soil.
Radio Galega claimed that Celta want around £44 million for Gomez, which would make him Tottenham’s record signing if he arrived. But a decent rival for Harry Kane could be absolutely priceless.
