It’s going wrong for Jose Mourinho at Premier League giants Manchester United while Marcelo Bielsa is a hero for guiding Leeds to the top of the Championship.
Jose Mourinho has dominated the back pages once again this week – and not for the right reasons.
The Manchester United manager was left red-faced by his very own pupil in midweek as Frank Lampard’s Derby County won on penalties at Old Trafford in the third round of the EFL Cup.
And a storm has enveloped the ‘Theatre of Dreams’ in the aftermath with the ongoing dispute between Mourinho and Paul Pogba once again hogging the headlines.
The former Chelsea and Real Madrid boss was then perceived to have aimed a barb at Phil Jones too after the defender missed that crucial penalty kick against Derby, comments The Sun believe have stunned many members of his United squad.
So with all this in mind, it is hard not to think of Mourinho when Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa faced the media ahead of The Whites’ Friday night trip to Sheffield Wednesday.
“You can’t be a leader if you don’t take responsibility and you point to others in when things go wrong. You can’t be a leader if you don’t publicly assume the responsibility of your decisions,” said Bielsa, in what The Sun (28 September, page 67) indicated might be a response to the problems Mourinho is facing.
Leeds lost for the first time in the Championship this season at home to Birmingham City last week but Bielsa refused to dig out any of his players afterwards, instead putting the blame on himself.
As a result, you can imagine that the team spirit at Elland Road is a little stronger than at Old Trafford right now.
