Everton have been heavily linked with PSV’s Eredivisie champion Hirving Lozano but La Liga champions Barcelona are keen, too.
You would think after a stunning debut season for PSV Eindhoven and a highly impressive World Cup, in which he scored Mexico’s winning goal against Germany, that Hirving Lozano could not do much more to enhance his reputation in 2018.
You would be wrong. After firing PSV to the Eredivisie title with 17 goals in 2017/18, Lozano has started this season like a man on fire, too. He has six goals in seven games already, including two in a 7-0 away win at ADO Den Haag at the weekend.
So, despite spending big on Richarlison this summer, Everton will surely be keeping a keen eye on the former Pachuca man’s progress after the Liverpool Echo claimed in May that he was on the Toffees’ list of targets.
The fact that PSV’s former technical director Marcel Brands is now earning his wage at Goodison Park does not do their chances any harm.
But it seems that Lozano has his heart set elsewhere, for now at least. Speaking ahead of PSV’s Champions League clash away to Barcelona on Tuesday, Lozano has spoken about his desire to play in the famous blue and red one day.
“I did well at the World Cup and many clubs came for me. My agent told me there was interest from Barcelona,” Lozano told Marca.
“It would be a dream come true to come to this great club.”
So what chance do Everton really have if Barcelona are in the running?
