Celtic turned down Manchester City youngster Agyepong and he finally moved to the Scottish Premiership with Hibernian in the summer
Thomas Agyepong might have felt that he had something to prove when signing for Hibernian in the summer.
After all, Celtic clearly didn’t think he was good enough when he had a short-term spell at Parkhead in 2014. According to the Scottish Sun, the jet-heeled winger was given the chance to earn a contract with The Hoops but failed to impress then manager Ronny Deila, who decided against adding Agyepong to his squad.
So Agyepong would have been desperate to make an impression when returning to Scotland with Hibs on a short-term loan spell from Manchester City.
In a cruel twist of fate, however, injuries have restricted the 22-year-old to just a handful of first-team appearances for the Edinburgh side. And, in quotes reported by the Scottish Sun, manager Neil Lennon has admitted that his future is up in the air with his loan deal due to expire next month.
“We’d like to keep him, obviously, but his contribution has been minimal due to injuries. So, it’s something we’re speaking to Man City over.”
So four years after Celtic rejected him, Agyepong’s second spell north of the border could be set to end in similar disappointment.
And, in truth, the five-time Ghana international has done very little to suggest that Celtic were wrong not to give him a chance.
