Premier League duo Everton and West Ham have been linked with Ajax playmaker Hakim Ziyech after another sublime Eredivisie season.
Has Hakim Ziyech played his final home game for Ajax?
It certainly seems like it. The Moroccan playmaker has been criticised by some sections of the Amsterdam ArenA support this season but there was no sign of any animosity as Ajax cruised past AZ Alkmaar 3-0 in the final home clash of the Eredivisie season.
And, if Ziyech is to leave this summer amid interest from Everton and West Ham according to Calciomercato, he has certainly gone out with a bang.
The 25-year-old produced another masterclass in front of a awe-struck fanbase, putting the seal on a very impressive win with a 14th glorious assist of the season for David Neres’ late strike.
After the game, Ziyech was named Ajax’s Player of the Year – an award certainly warranted for a series of masterful performances from the centre of the park. This game certainly had the feeling of a farewell to arguably the most gifted footballer in the Netherlands right now.
Everton fans on Twitter were a little wary when the reports broke that Ziyech could be moving to Goodison Park. After all, the fans haven’t forgotten how much Davy Klaassen has struggled since making the same move a year ago.
And West Ham supporters might be feeling a little underwhelmed too. Recruitment has been a big problem in recent transfer windows and Ziyech is far from a household name outside of Holland.
But if he can perform to the same exceptional level in England, he will do wonders for the reputation of those much-maligned Eredivisie exports.
