Glenn Loovens is a free agent after being released by Sheffield Wednesday and would be a good addition for League One Sunderland

Barring their ongoing failure to sign a new striker, it looks to have been quite an impressive summer for Sunderland so far.
The Black Cats have pulled off real coups to land Chris Maguire from Bury as well as Scottish internationals Dylan McGeouch and Jon McLaughlin. It is understood that they are also close to snatching the highly-rated Greg Docherty on loan from Rangers too.
But Sunderland could still do with another centre-back. John O’Shea and Marc Wilson have gone while Papy Djilobodji and Lamine Kone are expected to follow.
So how about the experienced free-agent Glenn Loovens? The 34-year-old is currently without a club after bringing an end to five years at Sheffield Wednesday but, in a move that is bound to spark speculation, the defender’s wife followed Sunderland’s official Instagram account on Thursday night.

Is this a hint that the former Cardiff and Celtic favourite is on his way to the Stadium of Light?
Standing at 6ft 2ins and with nine seasons in English football on his CV, Loovens would be a solid addition to Jack Ross’ side on a free transfer. He would also offer further depth after the additions of Tom Flanagan and Alim Ozturk.
