Rangers midfielder Jason Holt has reportedly been told he can leave Ibrox this summer with Steven Gerrard preferring other options.
It all looks very rosy for Steven Gerrard at Rangers so far.
A month after he was surprisingly appointed as the club’s new manager, the former Liverpool skipper has already reshaped his squad, bringing in six exciting additions.
Stuart Arfied, Jamie Murphy, Ovie Ejaria and Connor Goldson have all arrived from Premier League clubs, Allan McGregor might be the best ‘keeper in the land and Nikola Katic, a £2 million signing from Slaven Belupo, is arguably the top defensive talent in Croatian football right now.
But a raft of new signings, inevitably, mean some will have to be sacrificed to make room. The likes of Bruno Alves, Fabio Cardoso, Andy Halliday and Michael O’Halloran have been expected to leave for some time but according to the Daily Record Jason Holt could be on his way too.
It is understood that Holt has been told he is not part of Gerrard’s plans – but has the 37-year-old just made his first mistake in charge of the Ibrox giants?
The former Hearts dynamo has never been a universal fans’ favourite on the blue half of Glasgow but he has been a useful and effective member of the squad over the last two seasons.
25-year-old Holt made 33 appearences in all competitions in 2017/18 and, with Rangers looking to compete on a number of fronts, his energy and attitude makes him a fine option to have in the roster, especially with Graham Dorrans, Jordan Rossiter and Ryan Jack suffering from injuries over the last few months.
Holt might just be one of those players you don’t notice until he’s gone.
