Greg Stewart played 45 minutes as Rangers beat The New Saints of Wales in pre-season.

The beauty of Rangers’ new signing Greg Stewart is that he can play almost anywhere in attack.
After a period of prolonged speculation, the Birmingham City forward moved to Ibrox on an initial two-year deal in mid-June after producing ten goals and ten assists during loan spells with Kilmarnock and Aberdeen last season.
But where do Rangers plan to field their skilful 29-year-old? On the left, where he can glide inside onto his wand of a right foot? Perhaps as a second striker, a roving number ten capable of linking midfield and attack.
Well, Gers boss Steven Gerrard might have dropped a hint about Stewart’s role in their latest pre-season victory, a 1-0 win against The New Saints of Wales secured by a single Jermain Defoe strike.

Stewart came on at half-time, replacing match-winner Defoe right through the middle.
Make no mistake, he was a centre-forward in every sense of the word, leading the line and bringing Rangers wingers Jake Hastie and Jamie Murphy into the game with his penchant for a deft lay-off.
45 minutes may a small sample size but it looks like Gerrard sees Stewart as a cerebral alternative to the instinct of Jermain Defoe and the bulldozing power of Alfredo Morelos in the number nine position.
