Scottish Premiership powerhouses Rangers were reportedly in talks to sign Fulham’s seldom-seen Premier League midfielder Kevin McDonald on Friday.
Kevin McDonald will have found himself at the centre of an intriguing transfer battle on Friday.
Football London reported that Rangers had made contact with the 30-year-old Fulham midfielder and preliminary talks were understood to have started over a potential move from Craven Cottage to Ibrox.
But, just three days later, has McDonald now been left in limbo after a cruel twist of fate?
McDonald, a key player as Fulham earned promotion last season, is clearly not part of Claudio Ranieri’s plans and has played just eight minutes of football since the Italian replaced Slavisa Jokanovic in West London.
The fact he was left out of a much-changed Cottagers team in their 2-1 FA Cup defeat to League One Oldham Athletic on Sunday spoke volumes.
And, on the same weekend, it seems that a move to Rangers is now looking increasingly doubtful. Steven Gerrard’s side have finally sealed a deal to bring former captain Steven Davis back to Ibrox while Glen Kamara will join at the end of the season when his contract at Dundee runs out.
The Finland international has signed a pre-contract agreement, as reported by the BBC.
So it seems there is no room at Rangers for McDonald right now – while he is being squeezed out of Fulham too.
