Scottish Premiership champions Celtic signed £13million centre-back Filip Benkovic on loan from Leicester City in August.

Filip Benkovic of Celtic arrives at the stadium prior to the UEFA Europa League Group B match between Celtic and Rosenborg at Celtic Park on September 20, 2018 in Glasgow, United Kingdom.

Filip Benkovic might have played just 121 minutes of football in the Scottish Premiership but the early signs suggest the talented young centre-back could go some way to solving Celtic’s defensive problems.

The 21-year-old is already earning rave reviews from fans and pundits alike. So the fact that Leicester can re-call their £13 million summer signing in January remains an ongoing concern.

According to the Daily Record, the Foxes have the option to bring Benkovic back to the King Power Stadium halfway through the season and cancel his year-long loan at Celtic.

Fortunately, however, the former Dinamo Zagreb talent dropped a promising hint about his Celtic future ahead of Saturday’s clash against Hibernian.

“I’m only concentrating on Celtic. My goal is to win the title here and make progress as a player,” Benkovic said in quotes reported by the Celtic Star.

Celtic have dominated the Scottish football landscape in recent seasons but even they cannot win the league title before February. So, if Benkovic wants to be around to help the Hoops make it eight domestic triumphs in a row, he will have to stay until the end of the 2018/19 campaign.

While Leicester still have the final say over Benkovic’s future, the fact that he is planning to remain beyond January could be half the battle won.
