Premier League club West Ham United were reportedly close to signing Luke Thomas from Championship Derby County for around £1million.

Derby County fans would have been very concerned when reports in Gloucester Live last week stating that Luke Thomas was set to leave Pride Park.
The Rams’ Young Player of the Year had courted interest from a number of Premier League sides and the report stated that he was heading to West Ham United this summer for a bargain fee in and around the £1 million mark.
But, when posting an end-of-season message on his official Twitter account, Thomas hardly sounded like a player who has featured in the white of Derby for the last time.
The sentence ‘see you next season’ certainly seems to suggest that the 19-year-old’s immediate future lies in the East Midlands rather than London.
Thomas has played twice in the Derby first-team this season and, after netting six goals for the U23s, looks set for a bigger role in Gary Rowett’s plans in 2018/19, with the Rams set for another season trying to get out of the Championship.

It remains to be seen, however, why Thomas appears not to be joining West Ham just yet despite reports suggesting that he would soon be posing in claret and blue.
But, for now, this seems like exactly the sort of good news Derby needed after their dramatic play-off semi-final defeat to Fulham.
