Stoke City’s Championship outcast Charlie Adam has admitted that he would love to return to Scottish Premiership giants Rangers given the opportunity.

Charlie Adam has made no secret of the fact that he was probably walk barefooted through broken glass to return to Ibrox.

The experienced Scottish midfielder, who started his career at Rangers before leaving for Blackpool in 2009, admitted in November that he would be interested in returning to where it all began – and this is not the first time Adam has made claims like this.

“If it was an option, there’s something there. It’s a wonderful club and I had great times there. It’s a big club, still as well,” Adam told Sky Sports.

“Obviously, (Adam’s former Liverpool team-mate) Steven Gerrard’s there, and he seems to be enjoying it. You want to be part of something special. If there was an opportunity to go back then great.”

Whether Rangers would consider offering the 32-year-old his dream move remains to be seen. But what is sure is that Adam’s current employers, Stoke City, look certain to let him go with the January transfer window just weeks away.

Gary Rowett, the Stoke City manager, looks on during the pre-season friendly match between Stoke City and Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Bet365 Stadium on July 25, 2018 in Stoke on Trent,...

“The reality is, he’s a player that wants to play football and he hasn’t had the opportunity to do that, so of course he’s going to want to play more regularly,” Stoke boss Gary Rowett said in quotes reported by the Daily Record (live blog, 2.29pm).

“He is so desperate to play, so yes we are open-minded to (Adam leaving) and have been for a while now.”

Adam played just 55 minutes of Championship football for Stoke all season. The Express have claimed that Gerrard wants to bring a new midfielder to Rangers in January but whether Adam fits the bill remains to be seen.

Although the former Liverpool man should be encouraged by the fact that Allan McGregor and Kyle Lafferty have been offered a second chance at Ibrox since Gerrard took over.
