West Brom’s defence was all at sea as Brighton defeated them 3-1 on Saturday and former Manchester City right-back Bacary Sagna could make a difference.

Bacary Sagna is likely to find a new club sooner rather than later. The 34-year-old Frenchman has been without employment since being released by Manchester City at the end of the season but his vast Premier League experience means he is not ready to be thrown on the scrapheap just yet.

According to the Daily Mail, West Bromwich Albion and Leicester City are hoping to sign Sagna, who had been considered by Chelsea before they landed Torino’s Davide Zappacosta on deadline day, on a free.

And West Brom would welcome Sagna with open arms, manager Tony Pulis renowned for his admiration for players with experience in the bank a la Darren Fletcher and Gareth McAuley.

Furthermore, if West Brom’s performance against Brighton was anything to go by, Sagna may find far more first-team opportunities at The Hawthorns than at the Etihad Stadium.

Versatile full-back Allan Nyom has developed into something of a cult hero since moving from Watford a year ago, setting up the Baggies’ goal in an impressive display against Stoke City last time out.

However, he was moved to the left as West Brom went down 3-1 to Brighton on Saturday with Craig Dawson instead reverting back to the right-hand side as Jonny Evans returned from injury to make his first Premier League appearance of the season.

And it is this lack of balance in the back four that Sagna could help resolve. The former Arsenal defender is a natural right-back that would give The Baggies more purpose going forward with his pinpoint delivery.

Furthermore, as West Brom fell to a Pascal Gross-inspired Brighton, two of Pulis’ back four were playing out of position, albeit in roles they have become more accustomed to in recent times.

It may be little coincidence that reports detailing West Brom’s interest in Sagna have intensified after a below-par performance which handed Brighton a comfortable first win in the top flight for 34 years.
